Undereye fillers are a minimally invasive and generally safe procedure when performed by an experienced medical professional. However, as with any injectable treatment, some temporary side effects may occur. These are typically mild and resolve within a few days.

Common side effects:

• Swelling and puffiness — mild to moderate swelling is expected immediately after treatment and usually subsides within 48 hours.
• Bruising — small bruises may appear at the injection site, especially if a needle is used rather than a cannula, but these typically fade within a week.
• Redness and tenderness — slight redness and sensitivity around the treated area are common but usually resolve within a day or two.
• Lumpiness or uneven texture — in some cases, the filler may initially feel firm or uneven, but gentle massage by the injector can help smooth it out.

Less common but possible side effects:

• Prolonged swelling — in rare cases, some individuals experience persistent swelling lasting beyond a week due to fluid retention or individual skin response.
• Tyndall effect — if the filler is placed too superficially, it may cause a slight bluish tint under the skin, which can be corrected with additional treatment.
• Delayed reactions — some patients may experience delayed-onset swelling or small lumps weeks or months after the procedure due to the body’s immune response to hyaluronic acid. These usually resolve with time or medical intervention.
• Infection — while rare, any injectable treatment carries a minor risk of infection if proper sterile techniques are not followed. Choosing a reputable clinic minimises this risk.

Serious but extremely rare risks:

• Vascular occlusion — if filler is accidentally injected into or compresses a blood vessel, it can restrict blood flow, leading to complications such as skin damage. This is why precise technique and anatomical knowledge are crucial. Hyaluronidase, an enzyme that dissolves hyaluronic acid fillers, can be used immediately if this occurs.
• Allergic reactions — although hyaluronic acid is biocompatible, severe allergic reactions are extremely rare.

During the procedure

The procedure is quick, typically taking around 15 to 30 minutes, and most patients experience little to no pain. After the filler is placed, the aesthetic doctor may gently massage the area to ensure even distribution and a smooth, natural contour.

After the procedure

Immediately after treatment, you may notice mild swelling or redness, but these effects are temporary and usually subside within a few days. While the initial results are visible immediately, the full effect becomes more apparent over the following week as the filler settles and integrates with the skin. The under eye area will appear brighter, smoother, and more youthful, reducing the tired or hollowed look.

Aftercare and maintenance

To maintain results, we provide comprehensive aftercare guidance, including avoiding strenuous activity, excessive heat, or pressure on the treated area for the first 24 to 48 hours.
