How do Injectable Neurotoxins work?

Injectable neurotoxins are commonly used to treat wrinkles on the forehead, between the eyebrows, and around the eyes. These proteins act as “relaxers,” temporarily weakening muscles to soften lines and wrinkles. Similarly, doctors can inject them into the masseter muscle, responsible for chewing, to make a jawline appear narrower and more defined.

When will I see results?

You may begin to notice a visible smoothing of frown lines, crow’s feet and forehead lines within 24 to 48 hours, with full results in 30 days lasting up to 4 months for moderate to severe frown lines.

Is the treatment painful?

Some patients receiving BOTOX® Cosmetic report the injections feel like a pinch.

Is there any downtime?

Minimal downtime is expected, which means that you can resume your daily activities making it a suitable lunchtime treatment for some as well.

What can I expect during the procedure?

During the procedure, a numbing cream may be applied and botulinum toxin is then injected into the particular area where facial muscle reside. This relaxes and weakens the muscle over time leading to a reduction in size for the jaw area and smoother skin for the upper face area. *Do note that individual results may vary.

Any post-treatment care?

Dos:

Stay upright x 4 hours (avoid diffusion of Botox)
Work the treated muscle groups repeatedly for 1-2 hours following treatment to increase uptake of the botox and enhance the efficacy of treatment
Apply make up using light dabbing motion instead of rubbing or spreading motion
Resume usual skincare routine

Don’t:

Take vit E, omega fish oil, anti-inflammatory or blood thinning medications (unless medically necessary) 1 week before treatment (bleeding, bruising)
Vigorous exercise and alcohol x 48 hours
Massage the treated areas x 48 hours
Facials or facial massages x 2 weeks (till review)
Go into saunas, hot tubs or tanning booths
Smoking
